Frequently Asked Questions
When are your office hours?
Normally, our office hours are Monday- Friday 10am-4pm with a recommendation of scheduling appointments beforehand, but due to COVID-19, we no longer are offering walk-ins for the time being.
Do you offer a trial class?
We do not offer a trial class for the 6-week courses, but there are plenty of beginner sessions you can sign up for, and you can also stay informed about one-day workshops we offer here.
Do I need to have/bring any materials to classes?
No, we provide all the materials you will need. For our clay classes however, you might be mindful about the clothing you wear, or think about bringing an apron if you so wish (we also provide aprons), all up to your discretion.
Where can I park?
We have a small parking lot to the side of our studio (800 Moss St.) or you can park on the street outside the studio.
Can I take an upper level class without completing the prerequisites if I have had prior experience in that medium?
Possibly. Please give us a call to discuss your previous experience and find the best class fit: (573) 875-0275.
Do you offer scholarships if you can’t pay the full amount for classes?
Currently, all of our available scholarships for 6-week classes have already been awarded. Please check back later for those. However, we are offering scholarships for our youth 'Artful Afternoons' program, and our 'School's Out' program. Information on how to apply is located at the bottom of this page. If you want to send us an application for an adult 6-week class, (for future consideration when more scholarships become available,) you can find the form here.
When’s the next session starting?
For upcoming sessions, please refer to our Class Schedule here.
Can I sign up for a class in the middle of a session?
No, usually there is a following 6-week session, so make sure to look at the schedule and be the first to sign up for the following session!
Does Access Arts offer wait-lists?
Access Arts does offer waitlists! If it is not located with the class registration, feel free to send us an email!
What is your refund policy?
If you cancel before the registration deadline (in enough advance), you will receive a full refund. If you would rather, you may be able to switch to a different available class in the same session. No refunds or credits are given after the registration deadline. If a class or workshop is canceled due to COVID-19, a full refund will be given, or you can save the payment for a later class.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes! Gift certificates for the Studio make a great gift for friends and loved ones. Gift certificates can be used for any adult or youth class, camp, workshop, or private event. Get yours here.
Do you offer private parties or special events?
Normally - yes! However, as of right now with the extra precautions for COVID, we are not offering the private parties option. Please check back in the fall.
With COVID-19 still affecting things, how do I know what will change at Access Arts if things progress poorly?
What safety precautions are you taking in the classroom?
Access Arts requires that all employees and all students wear masks during class time. We are limiting the class sizes, and number of classes offered, in addition to separating the stations more in order to uphold social distancing. Between each class we are cleaning and sanitizing the studios. As far as the ARTastic Summer camp, we are taking many precautions that can be found here.
What ages are the youth classes for?
For our summer camps, they must be school age: 5 and up, for weaving classes: 9 and up, ceramics classes: 7 and up, and 2D classes: 7 and up.
If I want to send my child to ArTastic Summer Camp, but they have a conflict that prevents them from going the full day, can I still sign them up? Will I have to pay the full amount?
We actually offer an Adaptive ARTastic Summer Camp option, in which you can choose either the morning (9:00-12:00) or afternoon (1:00-4:00) option, and the cost is about half the price as the full day option. Find more information here.
Am I required to stay while my child is in a class or taking art lessons?
Not at all; it is best for the student to be focused on their art and expressing themselves and not having to divide their attention between their art and their parents. So we ask that you drop them off and enjoy some time to yourself!
What sort of clay is being used in the 6-week classes?
Cone 6 Stoneware. We fire students’ work in an electric kiln (oxidation firing). Occasionally we offer the opportunity to fire the work in our gas kiln (cone 10 reduction firing) or participate in a wood firing with our artist in residence.
When are open studio hours?
Monday and Wednesday studio hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m; Saturday and Sunday studio hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What is the cancelation policy?
When inclement weather occurs, class cancellations will be decided by the Instructor of the class. If WE cancel any 6-week classes due to weather or COVID-19, they will be made up at a later date. If class is not canceled, but a student feels unsafe traveling, they can stay home, but NO make-up class will be provided. We encourage you to make up any lost time during open studio hours and ask about any material missed during the following class.
Your Instructor will contact you if class is canceled. Please make sure s/he has your correct contact information. If you have any questions about our cancellation policy, please don't hesitate to email us at accessarts@schoolofservice.org or call us at 573-875-0275.
