July Session Information - Adaptive ArtRegister here
Each class meets for 1.5 hours each week for 6 weeks. (If all classes are full, please join the waitlist! It lets us know if we would have enough interest to add another class!) All of our other classes are inclusive, and we encourage all students to enroll in those classes if they are interested in working with a particular medium. If you want to discuss more about which class is the best fit, please reach out to accessarts@schoolofservice.org! Adult Adaptive Art Class
This multi-media class is for high-functioning, independent students. If a student requires individual assistance or support, they are responsible for bringing their own aide to assist them. (This is a new class we are developing, and do not have the staffing at this stage to provide special needs assistants.) Details about each workshop-style class can be found below: Cost: $150
Week 1: Coffee Filter Prints We will start with creative icebreaker games to meet our new friends in the art group. We will create colorful prints by drawing with markers on coffee filters, then spraying them with water and pressing them onto paper to make prints that we can keep or give to a new friend. Week 2: Clay Class – Sea Life Wall Hanging In this class, we will get inspired by looking at books of colorful sea life. We will design and cut out a sea creature or choose from various templates. We will then decorate the surface of the clay by carving, stamping, and adding elements. The finished piece will be ready to hang on your wall or give as a gift. Week 3: Paper Mosaics We will look at examples of colorful paper mosaics, from geometric freeform designs to favorite foods, portraits, flowers, and landscapes, all made from paper! We will create shapes out of paper and washi tape and arrange them to create a mosaic piece to hang in our homes. Week 4: Painting with Watercolors In this class, we will draw a picture and write messages with an inspiring quote or reminder of our abilities, strengths, or what we’re good at. We will use a wax crayon that keeps the paint from appearing on parts of our image. We will then paint with watercolors and watch the magic of our inspiring drawing come to life around the wax resist. Week 5: Weaving Class This week we will add nature to our art by choosing a natural loom made from a stick. We will choose colorful yarn/fabric for weaving and weave a lovely hanging or table decoration to use in our homes. Week 6: Sculpture – Mobile In this class, we will draw and cut out a variety of geometric shapes, turn them into 3-D objects and tie them to yarn and dowels to make a colorful mobile sculpture. |
CANCELATION POLICY When inclement weather occurs, class cancelations will be decided by the instructor of the class. If WE cancel any 6-week classes due to weather or COVID-19, they will be made up at a later date. If class is not canceled, but a student feels unsafe traveling, they can stay home, but NO make-up class will be provided. We encourage you to make up any lost time during open studio hours and ask about any material missed during the following class. Your instructor will contact you if class is canceled. Please make sure they have your correct contact information. If you have any questions about our cancelation policy, please don't hesitate to email us at accessarts@schoolofservice.org or call us at 573-875-0275. SCHOLARSHIPS We frequently offer a limited amount of FREE spots for low-income families or individuals who are interested in any of our programs! If you want to apply for future consideration when spots become available, find more information on how to apply, here! REFUND POLICY If you cancel in enough advance before the registration deadline (usually 2 weeks before the session starts), you will receive a full refund. If you would rather, you may be able to switch to a different available class in the same session. No refunds or credits are given after the registration deadline (a week before the class session starts). If a class or workshop is canceled due to COVID-19, a full refund will be given, or you can save the payment for a later class. |
