During our 50th Anniversary year, we are taking the chance to not only look at our past and the history of our organization, but are also looking to our future. To ensure that Access Arts is thriving 50 years from now, we’re embarking on a campaign for a new facility. Our ultimate goal is to purchase a building suitable for conducting classes and workshops at twice the capacity that we currently do.
To help us work toward all of our long term goals, we are launching this 50 in the 50th Campaign - where we are asking supporters to commit to giving $50 each month of 2021. Ten of those dollars will be directed towards our regular operating expenses, while the remaining $40 will be deposited in a Building Fund, creating a nest egg for our future plans. We are going into 2021 energized and ready, with the comfort of knowing that art has helped us through all of the difficult times before and will continue to comfort us as we step into the unknown of the future. We want to continue to bring that comfort, creativity, and healing to Columbia for many generations to come, and hope you will help us reach that goal. Here’s to 50 in the 50th, and here’s to a much better year to come! Use the button below to select your $50 monthly donation, and be a major part of the future of Access Arts! |

Letter Writing ProjectHow do you change the world?
Hurst John may or may not have asked himself this question back in the ‘60s, when he first imagined a place for his son and others with disabilities to learn and socialize together. We can’t know all the thoughts that went through his mind. But we do have record of some thoughts he shared with others. Letters like the one below give us insight to his thought process and show us where it all began. He set out to change things, and his first step was writing letters to his friends. We’re all a bit weary of screens, are we not? Zoom meetings, doom scrolling of social media, quarantine binges on Netflix… How would you like to receive a handwritten letter from a friend? For the next month, we’re tipping our hat to Mr. John and his early efforts by writing some letters of our own. If you’d like to get a little sunshine in your mailbox, just complete this form so we know where to send it. One of our team will send you a personal missive via the US Postal Service. Who knows? These little notes just might change one little corner of the world, even if it’s just for a moment. (Plug in your name and address in the form above to receive a personal, handwritten letter from a member of the Access Arts staff This is completely FREE, but we ask you please be patient! We'll get one to you a.s.a.p.) Below is one of Hurst John's original letters he sent to friends explaining his idea of starting Access Arts.
